Yakima is the perfect hub for day trips throughout Central Washington State. Scenic wonders, numerous historic towns, and other Washington activities are within a couple hour’s drive. So, the next time you are looking for an adventure, pick one of the following destinations and take a day trip from Yakima!

Soap Lake

If you are looking for an unforgettable adventure, take a day trip to Soap Lake! Just under two hours from Yakima, Soap Lake is a small, historic town named after their natural mineral lake. Known as ‘Nature’s Spa’ since the turn of the century, the silky mineral water and rich mud of the lake are known to have healing properties and beauty benefits. If you are into DIY natural spa treatments, kayaking, paddle boarding, hanging out in kayaks and swimming, Soap Lake makes the perfect day trip from Yakima. While you are there, be sure to stop into Don’s Restaurant for a bite to eat. Their classic steakhouse menu, made with fresh, local ingredients, has something for every taste.

Mt. Rainier National Park

14,410 feet of fun and adventure await your exploration when you visit Mt. Rainier. Hike among the blooming wildflowers, gaze upon powerful waterfalls and explore over 130 trails. Further, you can go for a train ride, visit a wildlife park, take a scenic drive, and take a ride in the Mt. Rainier Gondola. With so much to explore in the park, it’s totally understandable if you want to stop and stay for awhile. If you decide to park it there for the night, there are over 30 lodging options, in addition to camping.

Ellensburg

Only forty minutes from Yakima lies a town full of historic architecture, museums, mountain vistas, valley views and parks of every size. In addition to their great art scene, Ellensburg offers biking, bird watching, golf, horseback riding, snowmobiling, rock hounding, and vineyard and winery tours. Without a doubt, the best time to visit Ellensburg is in the Fall — when the leaves are changing. Additionally, they have several Fall activities ranging from a Rodeo to the County Fair.

Woodinville

Known for their small town vibe and their growing collection of celebrated wineries, craft breweries, cideries, and distilleries, Woodinville makes for a great day trip from Yakima. They have four distinct districts that each has it’s own feel, flavor, and philosophy. Each of their districts brings something fresh and fun, making a trip to Woodinville not one, but many. From concerts in the park to a community pancake breakfast to after hours wine tasting, Woodinville offers several events for everyone in the family.

Snoqualmie Falls

Just two hours from Yakima lies one of Washington State’s most popular scenic attractions. Once there, you will find a two-acre park, gift shop, observation deck, and of course the famous 270-foot waterfall. There are easy hiking trails that take you to the base of the massive waterfall, but the main attraction is the view at the top of the falls. The day trip from Yakima to Snoqualmie Falls is definitely worth it!
